Eastside
Sustainability Vision, Birmingham 2002.
Eastside is a large area on the edge of the city centre. As a member of a commissioned team which comprised 18 different organisations, Axis helped to produce the document which sets out a strategy for how Eastside could become a model for a sustainable urban quarter.
The strategy covers every possible aspect of sustainable development; from land uses, reuse of existing buildings, transportation, waste management, social equity, wildlife conservation, planting, and water policy, to the manufacturing economy. It has recently gained the support of the Eastside team and City Council chief officers, and we await its first tests in action in the development process.
